Chris and Nicole love the ocean; they got married in a surprise small ceremony on their sailing yacht. Some weeks later they invited friends and family on a private ferry to Spectable Island in Boston Harbor, they had a nautical-themed dinner reception.
For my wedding gift to them, I took one picture of the two of them that I knew they liked, used photo-editing software to remove the background, and added my own abstract background.
The figure pieces are nautical-themed or personalized for them. The boat figure piece isn’t just a boat -- it is the model of their sailing yacht. Note the “appropriate” positioning of the wine bottle :-). The date is, of course, their wedding date, but it would have been awkwardly long as one piece, so I cut it into three pieces used the loops of the “8s” as knobs to interlock them. The islands of Sicily and Sardinia are part of Italy, but are too small to exist as pieces of their own (unless I made the Italy mainland piece extremely large). So I used “dead-end” cuts to outline most of the two islands in the piece next to Itally.
